Save Document

Save and Save As... Options

You can save the document currently being edited in XML Instance by choosing either Save or Save As... from the File menu. Or by clicking on the Save Icon on the Toolbar (Figure A.)

Figure A - Save Button on Toolbar

Save will automatically save the document to its current filename. If the document does not have a filename yet (i.e., it is Untitled), XML Instance will prompt you to give the document a filename. Save As... will always prompt the user for a filename before saving and allow you to specify where the file should be saved.

Save To... Option

The Save To... option on the File menu allows you to specify a URL (Uniform Resource Locator) for the current document (Figure B). The Save to URL dialog box will appear with a text field for entering a URL. By default, this text field displays the filename of the currently open document. To specify a URL, you can either edit the default filename or enter a URL that includes a different filename.

Saving an Edited Schema

If you have used the Edit Schema... function to edit a schema, the Save As... dialog box will offer several schema format options in the "Save as type" drop-down box. Options include DTD, XDR Schema, XSD, SOX, and BizTalk-compatible. If you already saved this file in a particular format, that format will be selected. If you want to change the format of the file, save it in another format. Future saves of the same schema will be in the chosen format.
